Second Batch of RSLAF Peacekeepers Depart for Darfur

The fourth batch of soldiers of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) departed Sierra Leone on the nineteenth of November

for the Hybrid United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in Darfur, says the Head of the Directorate of Public Relations at the Defense Ministry.

Major Ken Jabbie told CTN that the one hundred and thirty personnel would relieve the third batch of the reconnaissance company currently serving in Darfur.

Responding to questions of how the Ministry of Defense is handling issues of casualties of RSLAF members on peace keeping, Major Jabbie responded that even though it was unfortunate when one suffers any causality but in the military terms causality is sometimes inevitable.

Major Jabbie noted that notwithstanding the challenges, the men are physically, mentally and logistically prepared to undertake the international peace keeping mission of the UN.

He said the country’s participation in the peace keeping mission in Darfur is a continuation of the country’s fulfillment of its international commitment to contribute to world peace.
