The Sierra Leone Football Association SLFA has officially appointed the Team Manager for Belvic United Victor Luis as Chairman of the Sierra Leone Premier League Board, PLB. He succeeded Rodney Michael. Victor was considered after the decline of Alhassan Kamara, Chairman of Wusum Stars and Idris Kamara of the respective position with no distinctive reasons as were appointment by the SLFA and participating clubs in the League. The arrival of the new PLB chairman will now see the re-commencement of the most expected Sierra Leone Premier League after its sudden and abrupt break in November last year. Victor whose team Belvic United has never played in the country’s top flight football said he is ready to effect change in the League. ‘’I wholeheartedly accept to handle this mantle because of my passion for football, and I will do everything within my powers to effect change in the League and leave up to expectations. It is also going to be a collective responsibility of me and the various team managers to achieve our goal and I’m very much optimistic that we shall have a successful league season.’ Says Victor. He also revealed that he had already started to explore all avenues to put strategies in place including sponsorships to ensure a smooth running of this year’s Premier League.
Sorie Ibrahim Sesay is the Public Relation Officer of the SLFA, he told Cotton Tree News that the League still maintains its title as ‘the Africell Salone Premier League’ until it attracts other sponsors in the country.
Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone Football Association kicked on Sunday, 15th January, 2012 in different venues across the country. In Kenema, Kambui Eagles defeated Gem Stars of the east by 1-0, whiles Diamond Stars lost to Wusum Stars of Makeni, Kissy All Stars traveled to Bo Rangers on a goalless draw and newly promoted side FC Johansen also defeated Old Edwardians by 1-0 at the National Stadium in Freetown.
